About Matt
The youngest of four children by Charles and Linda Owen, Matt
grew up in a good, Christian family environment that stretched
from South Louisiana across Texas to Northwestern New Mexico.
Family has had the biggest influence on Matt when it comes
to his musical aspirations. His mother sang in the church
choir and often played the piano, and eventually Matt took
piano lessons himself. Within a few short years, Matt picked
up the guitar. He had found his calling.
Matt developed his ear for music as well as his own unique
playing style throughout the next several years. Among his
musical influences are Don Williams, George Jones, Johnny
Cash, Tony Rice, Leo Kottke, and Elvis Presley.
While earning his Associate’s degree in Commercial Music
at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, Matt played
guitar for the Wade Parks Band out of Lubbock and
was part of Pickin’ on the Plains, a weekly
bluegrass show broadcast on public television in West Texas.
He later earned the stand up bass part for Texas, A Musical
Drama — widely considered the front-running musical
in Texas about Texas as it has portrayed Panhandle history
for thirty years. Matt received
his Bachelor’s degree in Radio & Television at Sam
Houston State University in 2004.
Matt and his wife Paige live and work in Houston while
raising their daughters, Faith and Avery. Matt is currently a construction supervisor with Evermon Homes, while Paige is a Registered Nurse. He continues to write and record music every day.
